Nike.com’s move away from midnight releases a couple of years ago certainly benefited folks who like to get a full night’s sleep. But, while the current 8am ET online launch policy is great for the roughly half the US population that resides in that particular time zone, it’s not much better for folks in the Pacific Time Zone, who often have to crawl out of bed before 5am on a Saturday to even have a chance at purchasing that latest limited shoe. Well, rejoice, West Coasters, change is a-coming.
Beginning January 3, the default Nike.com release time will be 10am ET/7am PT. That means that this Saturday’s releases — notably the three Jordan Melo M11’s — will be the first to be affected by the new policy, which will see availability pushed back a full two hours.
It’s the latest move by Nike in an ongoing effort to make releases more equitable for all customers, regardless of location. Surely, it won’t be the last such move of the new year. Stay tuned.
